Laquavia Alston

Laquavia Alston, Mezzo Soprano is a local D.C creative and arts ambassador. Building community that supports and uplifts its creatives is her biggest inspiration. Alston is the founder and owner of La Mezzo Voice Studio, and Co-Founder of An Indivisible Art Collective. Since 2017, The Collective has served as a safe space for traditionally marginalized artists of all disciplines. The Low Country served as a backdrop to her fine arts training and first residency as an artist, keeping her connected to her roots. Through travel, experience and study, music and art have given Laquavia an expansive world view. Laquavia believes that the artist is formed when human creativity communes with the divine. This connection to energy has created worlds and everything we all love. An Indivisible Art Collective is committed to fostering this vision into the future.

Carolina Meurkens

Co-founder/ communications & Events manager
 

Carolina Meurkens is a writer, musician, and art-educator based in Washington, D.C. She’s been with An Indivisible Art Collective since its founding in 2017 and since then has been involved in organizing dynamic multimedia events across the city and assisting with the development of Art Hour. As a first-generation American of Afro-Brazilian and German descent, Carolina’s work explores the intersections of cultural heritage and she is passionate about teaching young storytellers the power of their own voice. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of MixedMag, an online multimedia publication publishing work by creatives of color and celebrating multicultural/multiethnic voices.

Maria Miller

Since joining The Collective in 2017, Maria Miller has made it her goal to help foster accessible arts and safe spaces for creatives spanning D.C. Being a self-taught artist has allowed Maria to understand the ways in which artists must adapt and evolve if they want to get their work out there. Her dedication to the community and her want for other people to succeed makes her brain run in circles but she would have it no other way! Being able to share the passion for art and community building makes everything she does so worth it.

Shaqueta Alston

Art Hour Program Manager

Holding a M.A. in Organizational Communications with a focus in Arts Administration, Shaqueta Alston has firmly planted her feet in the world of fine arts logistics. Shaqueta has been responsible for managing museum-level projects for The National Gallery of Art, The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Art Institute of Chicago, amongst other museums, galleries and private collectors within the Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and New York markets.

Lakeitha Alston

Food and agriculture Program Co-Manager

Lakeitha Alston is a former Mixologist and Cheesemonger with a natural knack for cultivating an atmosphere that plays on all of the senses. Combining creative efforts with local resources, Lakeitha found her calling and focus of food from her experiences with the local dishes of Haiti, Malta, and Paris to name a few. Lakeitha’s use of sustainable fresh produce is highly influenced by the cuisines enjoyed overseas and the Southern/Global fusion of dishes cooked for D.C locals.

Angelica Ames

Food and Agriculture Program Co- Manager

Angelica Ames is a D.C native with an envious knowledge of cheese. As a former career Head Cheesemonger for Right Proper Brewing Company, Angelica has prevailed in creating an aesthetically pleasing display of hand selected cheeses from around the world, accompanied with House made délectables. Angelica’s ability to combine nature, beauty, and ingredients propelled her decision to successfully participate in the highly competitive 2020 National Cheesemonger Invitational in San Francisco.
